Why Is The Life Of LEDs Measured By Optical Decay

Writer:Jane Time:2021-06-18 Browse:122

Q: Why is the life of LEDs measured by optical decay?

A: Unlike traditional light sources, which can reduce output and eventually cause a failure, LED products generally do not fail suddenly, however the light output can decrease over time. The usual practice is to measure life from a 30% reduction in output (i.e. the remaining 70% of light output). This is often referred to as the "L70 lifetime" and is measured in hours.
